The chain itself also got faster after the rename. Polygon started in 2017 as Matic Network and took its current name in February 2021. Today a new block lands in under two seconds, and since the Heimdall v2 upgrade in July 2025 a transfer becomes final within a few seconds instead of a minute or two. The fee for sending POL does not grow with the amount: moving 5 POL or 5,000 costs the same small fraction of a dollar. That suits Polygon gambling at small stakes, such as short rounds of our original casino games. Payment companies noticed the same thing. Revolut has offered USDC and USDT transfers on Polygon to UK and EEA users since November 2025, and about $2.9 billion in stablecoins sat on Polygon in October 2026. On October 14, 2026, Polygon closed its purchase of Coinme, which holds money transmitter licenses in 37 US states. The separate zkEVM chain was switched off on July 1, 2026. Polygon PoS, the network you deposit on, kept running as before.

Depositing POL: Polygon Network or ERC-20

The minimum on the Polygon network is 1 POL, no memo or tag is asked for, and the network fee comes out of your wallet in POL. ERC-20 is there for POL that still lives on Ethereum, and there the sender pays gas in ETH, which costs more than a transfer on Polygon.

Both options give you an address that starts with 0x, and that is the trap. Ethereum and Polygon addresses look exactly alike, so a wallet will happily send POL over the wrong network if you choose it. When both sides use one network, the coins arrive. Polygon is easy to add in MetaMask from its list of popular networks, and Trust Wallet and most exchange apps let you pick Polygon when you withdraw POL.
